Dear friends,

This Saturday, the 3rd November, we informally decided to go to El
Escorial for the day. The last time we were there was a year ago on the
11th November. It is fitting that we go back now.

Last time (and this time) we took the 10.39am train from Nuevos
Ministerios. I therefore suggest we meet at around 10am, as always, near
the ticket office in the main hall and not the annex. Anyway , if you
arrive late meet us on the platform, check the signs for the Escorial train.

I also suggest that we take a packed lunch with us, or maybe buy
supplies from the market in Escorial. The idea, or rather Kim's desire,
was to see the autumn trees so we'll probably walk up to the Monasterio
from the park, after that and after having stopped for a refreshment or
two, find the things for lunch and then walk to the woods behind the
Monasterio; parallel with the road to Avila. The market is on the way to
these woods, more or less. As always things might happen differently on
the day. Please come suitably dressed for the mountains of Escorial and
for walking; even if you only intend to walk between bars.

In the meantime I'll try and have the essay ready by Friday, but since
we have a long holiday weekend this week some of you might not have
access to your office email. The subject for this Sunday's meeting is:
Is humanity doomed to repeating its mistakes?

If you have the time can you also think of a few hard hitting
philosophical subjects we can discuss. If you cannot make the meeting
please send me your suggestions and I put them to the group on your
behalf. Thanks.
